Version 0.26 is the "Foliage & Save System" update for Out of Ore. It introduces two new foliage-heavy maps, improves multiplayer joining through Steam friends, and delivers a major rework of the save/autosave system to make saves more robust and less prone to corruption. It also tweaks XP, quests, workbenches and various systems introduced in Version/0.25.

Development and Beta Cycle

Version 0.26 went through several beta patches before being released to the main branch.

Early 0.26 Beta (0.26.2662)

Released to the beta branch on 17 October 2024.

Key points from the Friday News and patch notes:

New foliage passes and environment work for upcoming maps.
New maps:
- Scandinavian map
- Iron mountain pit (temporarily replacing Northern Open Pit due to save/load performance issues with the old huge pit)
New maps use updated deposit shapes.
Changed default network packet size to reduce desync in multiplayer.
Fixed local profile duplication issues.
Added a Community category in the main menu.
Added Bug report and Discord buttons to the menu.
Fixed issues with the drone.
Tweaked XP gain for ore selling.
Fixed uncontrolled FPS at startup causing some clients to fail to launch.
Fixed quests in multiplayer.
Tweaked excavator hydraulic speed and corrected FS excavator bucket controls.

Known issues at this stage included:

High CPU usage at times.
Some sessions not visible in the session browser.

Save System Rework & Workbench Improvements (0.26.2702)

On 15 November 2024 a new beta (with a separate beta branch) was released due to a **save system rework**.

Highlights:

More reliable autosave with extra redundancy.
New save metadata and reorganised save structure (all related files per save in a single folder).
Workbenches can now queue up to 999 items.
Several inventory fixes and XP gain adjustments.
Floating bushes now get removed correctly.
New trees can be cut down properly.
Grader articulation added.
Company menu settings fixed.
Fuel tank on the Scandinavian map fixed.
Store icon fixes.
Workbench items now refunded correctly; workbench animations fixed in MP.

Known issues remained:

High CPU usage at times.
Some sessions still not visible for everyone.

Steam Friends Joining & Stability (0.26.2704–2705)

On 22 November 2024 further beta patches refined multiplayer and stability:

Added the ability to **join sessions via Steam friends** (with password protection still active).
Fixed a grayed-out Load Save button.
Fixed fuel collision issues.
Fixed tunneler controls.
Fixed save-game crashes.
Other smaller issues and crash fixes.

This led directly into the final 0.26 release build.

Fixed quests not completing.
