Support/File locations
This page lists important file locations used by Out of Ore and explains what they are generally used for.
You can copy any of the paths below and paste them directly into the File Explorer address bar.
Steam Cloud support
Out of Ore does not currently support Steam Cloud synchronization.
This means that save games, companies, and other local data are stored only on your computer and are not automatically backed up by Steam.
If you are reinstalling the game, moving to a new computer, or reinstalling Windows, it is recommended to manually back up your save files.
The most important folders to back up are:
- Save games
- Company data
Save games
%localappdata%\OutOfOre\Saved\SaveGames
This folder contains all single-player save games.
Each save game is stored in its own folder and may contain:
- Manual saves
- Autosaves
- Backup saves
- Metadata files used by the in-game save manager
Autosaves are stored alongside manual saves and are named using the save name followed by _AutoSave.
Save games can be loaded in the main menu under: Single Player → Load Game
Tip: If you are troubleshooting save-related issues, it is recommended to make a backup of this folder before making changes.
Crash reports
%localappdata%\OutOfOre\Saved\Crashes
If the game crashes, crash report files are usually created in this folder.
Each crash is stored in its own subfolder and typically contains:
- A crash context file
- Configuration information
- A memory dump file
These files are very helpful for diagnosing crashes. When reporting crashes, please include the entire crash folder.
For more information, see Support/Troubleshooting/Crashes.
Screenshots and drone recordings
%localappdata%\OutOfOre\Saved\Screenshots
This folder contains:
- Drone snapshots
- Drone recordings (stored as image sequences)
Drone recordings are saved as a sequence of images, starting from frame 0 up to the configured maximum number of cached frames.
Company data
%userprofile%\Documents\My Games\Out of Ore\Companies
Company data is stored separately from save games.
Each company is stored in its own folder and uses XML files to track company-related progression and settings.
In some cases, certain systems may prevent the game from writing files to the Documents folder. If this happens, the game provides an option to store company data in an alternative location instead.
If you encounter errors related to company saving, see Support/Troubleshooting/Crashes or ask for help on Discord.
Company logos
%localappdata%\OutOfOre\Saved\CompanyLogo
Custom company logos uploaded through the game are stored in this folder.
Configuration files
%localappdata%\OutOfOre\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
This folder contains configuration files used by the game, including graphics and display settings.
In rare cases, invalid or corrupted configuration values may cause startup or stability issues. If instructed by support, resetting or removing specific configuration files may help.
Important: Always make a backup of this folder before modifying or deleting files.
Input settings
%localappdata%\OutOfOre\Saved\SaveGames\InputControls
This folder contains custom input and control configuration files.
Profile data
%localappdata%\OutOfOre\Saved\SaveGames\Profile
This folder contains local profile data used by the game.
In rare cases, corrupted profile data may cause unexpected behavior. Only modify or remove these files if instructed by support, and always create a backup first.
