Support/Troubleshooting/Crashes

From Out of Ore Wiki

This page applies when Out of Ore crashes during startup or gameplay and shows an error or crash message (for example "Fatal error!"), or when crash files are created.

If clicking Launch in Steam does nothing and no crash message appears, see Support/Troubleshooting/Game won’t start instead.

What is a crash?

A crash usually means that the game encountered an unexpected error and had to close.

This may happen:

  • During gameplay
  • During loading or transitions
  • When performing a specific action
  • In rare cases, only once and never again

Crashes are often caused by bugs in the game itself, even if they only occur under specific conditions or on certain systems.

Crash files

When the game crashes, it usually creates crash files that help us understand what went wrong.

Crash reports are typically stored here:

%localappdata%\OutOfOre\Saved\Crashes

For help locating files, see Support/File locations.

Reporting crashes

If the game crashes, the best way to help us investigate is to upload your crash files to our bug tracker:

https://bug.outofore.com/

For step-by-step instructions on how to collect and upload crash files, see Support/How to send crash reports.

These crash files often contain enough information for us to identify the cause of the crash, even if it only happened once.

If possible, please also include:

  • What you were doing when the crash occurred
  • Whether the crash has happened more than once
  • Any steps that might reproduce the crash

If the crash cannot be reproduced, that is still okay - crash reports are still very useful.

Common causes

Crashes can happen for many reasons, including:

  • Bugs in the game
  • Unexpected game states
  • Engine-level issues
  • Graphics driver problems
  • Corrupt save data

Not all crashes can be immediately fixed, but crash reports help us identify patterns and prioritize fixes.

Before reporting (optional)

If you experience frequent crashes, you may also try:

  • Restarting the game
  • Verifying game files in Steam
  • Updating your GPU drivers

These steps are optional and not required for reporting crashes, but can help rule out common issues and reduce the chance of repeated crashes.

Still need help?

If you are unsure whether something counts as a crash, or if you need help finding crash files, you can ask in the game-help forum channel on our Discord server.

If you need help collecting crash files, see Support/How to send crash reports.
